John 6:33 (NIV) "For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

The crowd that had received the miracle of the multiplied bread and fish were looking for Jesus after He left the area. They finally found Him in Capernaum. They asked Him when he had gotten there, seemingly to start a conversation. But Jesus saw right through them and told them that He knew they were only looking for Him because He had given them bread. They then asked for a sign, while telling Jesus that Moses had given the people manna to eat. Jesus corrected them, telling them that it was God and not Moses who had given them the manna. Then He spoke the words in the passage of scripture above. They told Him that they wanted this bread that He spoke about, but when He told them that He was the Bread, the Bread was His flesh and that they must eat it to live forever, they recoiled. That was too much for them to bear or to understand and they all left Him, except the disciples.

What did Jesus mean by saying that He is the Bread of Life and that we must eat it to live forever? To partake of the Bread is to have such an intimate and close relationship with Him that He comes to live in you, just as natural bread comes to live in you and give you nutrition when you eat it. You ingest it, it goes into your stomach and then it gets broken down and sent to every organ and cell in your body to give you strength and energy and to keep you alive. In the same way, Jesus, the Bread of Life, gives you strength and energy and gives you true life when He remains in you and you remain in Him. Just as you and the natural bread become one when you eat it, so you and the Bread of Life become one when you take Him into your life through prayer, His Word and through being filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Bible is clear about telling us that if you have Son you have life but if you do not have the Son, you do not have life. If you do not eat of the Bread of Life, you are merely existing and have no life in you. Jesus, the Bread, is the life. He is the life that everyone needs. Jesus came to give us life. When you participate in the Bread of Life, you come alive as you never have before. You learn that if you have everything that the world offers but don’t have a relationship with Jesus, you have nothing. But if you have nothing but have a relationship with Him, then you have everything that you need. He provides not only for your spiritual needs, but for your soul’s needs and your physical body’s needs as well. He brings your spirit to life, gives rest to your soul and provides strength and healing for your body as well. Jesus, the Bread from heaven gives you life forevermore and in every way. Make sure that you eat of this Living Bread. Taste and see how good He is and live!
