Hebrews 12:26-27 (NIV) At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.

If you have ever been in an earthquake, you know exactly what it feels like to be on shaky ground. There are parts of our country, like California, that have a lot of ground that can be shaken because it has faults in the ground, which are fractures or zones of fractures between two blocks of rock. When these blocks shift, they cause earthquakes. Earthquakes are very ominous and terrifying, but they are nothing compared to the shaking that God will bring about in the heavens and the earth because of the sin-infected world that we live in.

The world is getting darker and darker with evil getting more and more prominent and one day, God is going to bring everyone, including all of creation, to account. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 12 that the heavens and the earth will be shaken, and that everything that can be shaken will be, leaving only what cannot be shaken remaining. So if the heavens and the earth will be shaken (which is everything!), what is it that will remain because it is unshakeable? The first answer is obvious. God Himself will remain because nothing in all the universe is greater than Him and can shake Him. There is only one more thing that will remain that cannot be shaken, and that is those who are saved and have been washed in the blood of The Lamb. The reason that we cannot be shaken is because we are standing on the Rock, which is Christ Jesus! That Rock has no faults in it (Jesus is faultless!) making Him unshakeable and if He is our foundation, that makes us unshakeable as well.

One day soon, everything will be shaken, and Jesus will come back for those who have been redeemed. Make sure that you are on solid ground and unshakeable by remaining in Christ Jesus every single day of your life. Stand and remain standing on Jesus, the solid Rock! All other ground is shakable and sinking sand.
