2 Kings 3:15-17 (NLT) Now bring me someone who can play the harp.” While the harp was being played, the power of the Lord came upon Elisha, and he said, “This is what the Lord says: This dry valley will be filled with pools of water! You will see neither wind nor rain, says the Lord, but this valley will be filled with water. You will have plenty for yourselves and your cattle and other animals.

King Joram was planning to attack Moab because when Joram's father Ahab died, Moab rebelled against Israel. He was smart enough to ask for help from King Jehoshaphat, Judah's king, and also asked for help from the king of Edom for good measure. But when they had traveled seven days in the wilderness to meet the enemy, they found themselves without water for the fighting men and for the cattle and the animals. They were in deep trouble. Then King Jehoshaphat suggested that they find a prophet of the Lord so that they would be able to find out what they should do. As it happened, Elisha, God's mighty prophet, was in the area. Elisha would not have helped King Joram, because he was as wicked as his father Ahab was, but wound up agreeing to inquire of the Lord for them because King Jehoshaphat was there, and he was someone whom the prophet knew was a godly king.

When the prophet began to pray and inquire of the Lord, inspired by the heavenly music from the harp player, he told them that the Lord would supply all the water that they needed. The water would not be supplied by any natural means, but it would be supplied through supernatural means. The Lord could have sent heavy rain and wind to the area to create pools of water, but He chose to do it through what was not possible in the natural realm. He also told the kings that they would be successful in their battle against Moab. When they returned to their men, there began to appear a flow of water coming from the direction of Edom and soon, there was water everywhere.

First, note that this miracle of provision of much needed water was done because there was a godly king, King Jehoshaphat, among the two other godless kings. Because of him, God chose to help this alliance of armies. King Jehoshaphat's reverence for God became the pathway to victory for others. King Jehoshaphat's faith in God affected two other kingdoms for good. When you are serving the Lord with your whole heart, you can affect situations and circumstances in a way that will bring glory to God and that will, by default, bless others, even if they don't know the Lord.

Secondly, note that the Lord provides water for the thirsty in miraculous ways when anyone asks Him for help in humility and reverence. The humility and reverence of King Jehoshaphat overrode the wickedness of the other two kings, allowing the Lord to provide water for everyone and for all of the animals. Today, Jesus offers us living water that is so divine and thirst-quenching that it flows out from us to others that don't know about this water and that don't know how to access it. But this water is like the water that flowed from Edom that saved everyone that day long ago. It appears when you ask God for it. When you humble yourself and pray and ask God to quench your thirsty soul, He will not only do it but will make it so that you will become a fountain of thirst-quenching water for other dry and thirsty souls. The source of the water is Jesus and the supply is supernatural. It is how God does things for His glory. It is how you stay alive spiritually to live to see victory after victory in your life in ways that will affect others for their good as well. Get the water from the river that never runs dry, and save others from dying of soul thirst so that they too will enjoy the divine flow of water from our supernatural and loving God!
