Exodus 4:11-12 (NLT) Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”

Moses, one of the greatest personages in the Bible, didn't have such a great start. God called Him out in an amazing and awe-inspiring way by appearing to him in flames of fire from within a bush. As Moses approached the burning bush, the Lord began to speak to him and reveal His plan of deliverance for the Jewish people that were enslaved in Egypt. To Moses' great surprise, God's plan included Moses being the deliverer. I can imagine how incredulous he must have been to hear the God of all creation let him know that He had chosen him for this monumental task. Moses was flattered and began to blush...no, not even close. Moses began to try to talk God out of His plan for deliverance. He began to make excuses as to why he was the wrong guy. First he told God that he was a nobody, saying, "Who am I to go to Pharaoh and who am I to lead the people out of Egypt and what if the people don't believe me?" In other words, Moses was trying to tell the Lord that He had made a mistake in choosing him. But with each protest that Moses made, God had an answer. God told him that He would be with him and then He showed him that he would make it so that Moses would be able to perform miraculous signs. Finally, Moses pointed out that he had a speech defect. That's when God ended all of Moses' arguments by pointing out that it was He who made His mouth. God took away all of his excuses.

When God wants to use you, there is nothing to argue about. He will not be using you because of how great you are, how talented you are, how strong you are or how brave you are. Remember how the Lord appeared to Gideon while he was hiding from the Midianites as he was threshing wheat in a winepress. The angel of the Lord had called out to him, "The Lord is with you mighty warrior!" “Mighty who?” he must have been thinking. But God chose him to deliver Israel from the Midianites and accomplished His will through him because he agreed to do as the Lord instructed him to do. Moses, after having all of his excuses nullified by God Almighty, went on to become one of the greatest men to ever be used by God. God uses whom He uses and if you make yourself available to Him, He will use your life to do great things as well. Once He calls you, He will give you everything that you need to accomplish His plans and His purposes. It's an awesome thing to see how the Lord takes a person who nobody would think would be able to do anything of any significance and accomplish amazing things through that life. That's when it becomes obvious that it is the Lord Himself doing things through His people for His glory.

How about you? Do you think that you can ever be used by God to do great things? Do you have excuses like Moses did as to why that can not happen? Don't waste time arguing with God that you are not important enough and pointing out your deficiencies to Him because He is the one who made you and He is the one who will equip you. So get ready to be used by God...no excuses.
